    Benchmarking

    Benchmarking consists of an in-depth study of your competitors to understand the strategies and best practices they use. This analysis allows your company to replicate or adapt some of these actions to attract and win back customers. This benchmark will be selected depending on the area we want to improve, whether it is to improve an internal area or a process that directly affects the company's competitiveness in the market.

    Types of Benchmarking

    How does it work and what is it used for?

    Competitive benchmarking is a continuous process of analyzing the competition that helps improve our company's marketing strategy to differentiate ourselves in the sector. This does not mean copying or plagiarizing your competition. If you lose your identity, you are lost. Your brand image, your company, your mission, your values, and your overall branding are the essence of your brand. You cannot stop being who you are because you would lose your true purpose. Why is constant analysis of the competition important? Because if they are the spearhead as competitors and we compare ourselves to them, we will realize that we need to update ourselves. As you know, we must constantly update ourselves so as not to lose our presence in the market and, at the same time, save ourselves from becoming obsolete as a company.

     

    There are different ways to conduct this study, depending on the specific area you want to compare and improve. Below, we show you the different types of benchmarking:

    Types of benchmarking

     

    Competitive

    Competitive benchmarking seeks to measure the products, services, processes, and functions of our main competitors in order to compare them with our company and thus identify and implement improvements that surpass those of our competitors.

     

    This is perhaps the most complicated of the three types to carry out, since the analysis and study, as I have already mentioned, are carried out on the main competitors. As they are considered your direct competitors, in the vast majority of cases they are not interested in collaborating. Does this mean that if they do not collaborate, we cannot carry it out? Of course not, but obviously more resources will have to be used to collect the necessary data, and therefore it will be much more expensive.

     

    Internal

    Internal benchmarking is carried out within the same company. It is usually carried out in large companies that have different departments or in business groups that are made up of several companies. The process involves identifying a department or area that sets an example due to its good results in order to benchmark it against the company's other internal departments.

     

    It is the easiest to implement within companies with structures of a certain size, and it is usually the one that requires the fewest resources to carry out, since the information is obtained from the company itself.

     

    Functional

    Functional benchmarking identifies the best practices of a company that excels in the area you want to improve. This company does not need to be a competitor or even belong to the same sector.
