THE TRUTH BEHIND THE DREAM
There are many things they tell you when you decide to start your own business. That you'll be your own boss. That you'll be able to manage your own time. That you'll be doing what you love. And yes, all of that is true... but it's only part of the story.
Starting a business is one of those choices that seem daring, exciting, and even romantic. Everyone supports you when you share your project, telling you that you are on the right track, to pursue your dreams, and that "every effort brings its reward." But there is a part of this story that no one tells you... and it is precisely what you most need to know before taking the plunge.
Entrepreneurship is not just about having an idea. It's about sticking with it when it seems like no one else believes in it anymore. It's about trusting yourself when the results don't come and keeping going when you feel like everything is falling apart.
1. Entrepreneurship also means distancing yourself from people
Not everyone will understand your pace, your energy, your vision. Some will leave. Others will criticize you. But new people will also appear, who connect with you from a different place. The discomfort of detachment transforms into a space for more genuine connections.
2. Doing what you love is not enough
Loving what you do is not enough if you don't learn to manage it, sustain it, sell it, and communicate it. Entrepreneurship is about giving structure to your passion, even if that sometimes involves tasks you don't enjoy.
3. No one is born knowing how to be an entrepreneur (and that feels uncomfortable)
You will have doubts. You will make mistakes. You will start over more than once. And all of that is part of growing up. It doesn't mean you're doing it wrong, it means you're learning.
4. You don't need to have everything perfect to get started
Don't wait for the ideal moment or the perfect branding. Start with what you have. Perfection rarely comes, but what you do paves the way. And you can always improve along the way.
5. You will doubt yourself, even when everything seems to be going well
Success does not eliminate insecurity. Sometimes, when everything is going well, that voice still pops up questioning whether you are good enough. Don't panic: that's also part of the process of growing up.
6. Not everyone will understand your path (and they don't have to)
There will be uncomfortable questions, unsolicited comments, and other people's doubts that you don't need to absorb. Your vision doesn't need permission. You don't need to explain yourself all the time.
7. Entrepreneurship also means being alone sometimes
Making decisions alone, carrying the entire burden, having no one to consult... yes, that happens too. That's why it's vital to find a community that understands you, inspires you, and reminds you that you're not alone.
8. Feeling bad doesn't mean you're doing it wrong.
There are days of doubt, frustration, and exhaustion. And that doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. It just means you're investing a lot of yourself in something that matters.
Entrepreneurship is not about doing it perfectly; it's about making it real.
Entrepreneurship is not a clean, clear, or linear journey. It is a living, challenging process that shakes you up, transforms you, and sometimes confronts you with yourself. There are moments when it hurts, others when it excites you, some when it exhausts you... and others when it simply fulfills you.
But if, despite all that, you continue to believe in yourself, your vision, and the path you have chosen, then you are on the right track. Even if you progress slowly. Even if you don't have all the answers yet. Even if there are those who don't understand what you are doing.
Even when you are growing, generating revenue, or seemingly "doing well," entrepreneurship remains a mirror. One that shows you your fears, your limiting beliefs, your relationship with money, with success, and also with failure. And yes, there will be times when you don't like what that reflection shows you.
No, entrepreneurship isn't for everyone. But if you feel it's for you, trust yourself: you're shaping something brave, authentic, and deeply your own. And for that alone, it's already a huge achievement.
