Profeco has released a new analysis of the best dog food by thoroughly reviewing various brands available in Mexico since 2023, and here we share some points to consider.
This analysis, conducted by the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) in its Consumer Magazine, covered the study of 46 brands of dog food to determine which are the best sellers in Mexico.
The study focused on various aspects to determine everything from the quality of the ingredients in these croquettes to their nutritional content, with a total of 326 tests carried out.
PROFECO analyzed aspects such as moisture, ash, fiber, and carbohydrate levels, as well as the protein, fat, and energy content provided to dogs.
Therefore, in order to determine which are the best dog food brands in Mexico, PROFECO also proposed dividing the brands into three categories for its study. This was based on price and ingredient quality.
Following the study, it was observed that the best croquettes include:
- HILL'S SCIENCE DIET, from the United States.
- ROYAL CANIN, from Canada
- WHOLE HEARTED SALM0N, from the United States
- WHOLE HEARTED CHICKEN, from the United States
- CANIDAE PURE GOODNESS REAL BISON, from the United States
- PRO PLAN PURINA ADULT OPTIHEALTH, from Mexico
- CANIDAE PURE GOODNESS REAL DUCK, from the United States
- MERRICK HEALTHY WEIGHT, from Mexico
- PEDIGREE BALANCE NATURAL, from Mexico
- GRAND PET NOBLE, from Mexico
- FULL LIFE FULL TRUST, from Mexico
- FULL LIFE FULL TRUST MEXICAN ROOTS, from Mexico
- OL᾽ ROY, from Mexico
- WINNER, from Mexico
- Aurrera, dog food, from Mexico

- TRAINER'S CHOICE, from Mexico
- Chdraui, from Mexico
- CHAMP, from Mexico
- THE TOP CHOICE, from Mexico
- MEMBER'S MARK, from Mexico
- NUCAN BY NUPEC, from Mexico
To find out how good or bad the Member's Mark brand is, Profeco highlighted it in its study and explained the characteristics of its dog food compared to brands such as Sportsman's Choice.
Among other factors, these kibbles stand out for their contribution of essential nutrients for easy digestion. This is thanks to their formula containing vitamin E, vitamin A, zinc, antioxidants, and calcium.
He pointed out that eating these kibbles helps dogs have shiny coats, strong bones and teeth, and a more pleasant life: "because they contain the recommended amount of protein, which will help them grow better and stronger."
Similarly, the UAM veterinary campus points out that the food we humans eat tends to contain a large amount of fat.
And this is bad because it can lead to serious illnesses, as seasonings such as salt and pepper can cause gastroenteritis, ulcers, or colitis.
They also do not recommend giving bones, due to the possible splinters that can be generated when they fracture in the animal's stomach.

Currently, the kibble that was examined was found to focus on the well-being and care of the animal, with the intention of avoiding, as much as possible, any illness or serious condition in the dog that is fed this food.
